History of Coffee

The history of coffee dates back to more than a thousand years. Originally, coffee beans were used as a food. East African tribes would grind the coffee berries together, mixing the results into a paste with animal fat. Later, around 1000 AD, Ethiopians made a type of wine from coffee berries, fermenting the dried beans in water. Coffee also grew naturally on the Arabian Peninsula where it was first developed into a hot drink. Despite decades of research on coffee and caffeine, there are many misconceptions about the potential health risks associated with coffee. Coffee is one of the world’s most important primary commodities; it ranks second only to petroleum in terms of dollars traded worldwide. With over 400 billion cups consumed every year, coffee is the world’s most popular beverage.

What are Free Radicals ?

“Free radicals” is a term often used to describe damaged cells that can be problematic. They are “free” because they are missing a critical molecule, which sends them on a rampage to pair with another molecule.

Free radicals are formed naturally in the body, but their production is increased by factors such as smoking, alcohol, fatty foods, oxidized cholesterol, air pollution, infection, stress, excessive sunlight, and toxins like radiation.

How do antioxidant help to protect the body against free radical damage?

An apple slice turns brown. Fish becomes rancid. A cut on your skin is raw and inflamed. All of these result from a natural process called oxidation. It happens to all cells in nature, including the ones in your body. To help your body protect itself from the rigors of oxidation, your body needs to put up its best defense, especially true in today’s environment, antioxidants are thus, crucial to your health.

Antioxidants terminate the chain reactions by removing free radical intermediates, and inhibit other oxidation reactions by being oxidized themselves. Antioxidants are loyal protectors and nurturers of our cells, repelling diseases such as cold, fever, headache, mental stress, muscle pain, skin disease, anxiety etc and promoting good health.

Mechanism of Action

Chlorogenic Acid works by inhibiting the absorption and utilization of glucose (sugar) into the blood stream. Less sugar (or a slower release of sugar) into the blood stream means less build-up of fat in the body because sugar turns to fat in the body when it’s not burned.
It helps the body in maintaining healthy metabolism which leads to burning of fat more efficiently.
The liver is responsible for processing all of the fat we put in our body and chlorogenic acid supports burning of fat in the liver.

FAQs

GRECOBE-Green coffee bean Extract has strong anti-oxidant properties. The Green coffee bean extract has Cholorogenic acids, dietary polyphenols which act to help reduce free radicals in the body. This active ingredient makes green coffee bean an excellent agent to absorb free radicals; as well as helping to avert hydroxyl radicals, both which contribute to degradation of cells in the body. It has been touted as being able to maintain healthy blood sugar levels. It has also been implicated in supporting healthy weight. They protect cells and body chemicals against damage caused by free radicals, reactive atoms that contribute to tissue damage in the body. For example, when low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol is oxidized, it can become glued to arteries and cause coronary heart disease. Polyphenols is a kind of chemical that may protect against some common health problems and possibly certain effects of aging.

Antioxidants are unique nutrient compounds obtained from certain foods, primarily fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants can be vitamins, minerals, or other phytochemicals (plant chemicals). Your body is also capable of producing antioxidant enzymes which work in conjunction with those you eat.

Free radicals are called unstable molecules. They are unstable because in their outer electron spheres, they have an unpaired electron and are therefore reactive.

Free radicals are the by-products of metabolism as well as other natural biological processes. These by-products, if not neutralized naturally have been linked with many degenerative processes and diseases such as:

  • Aging
  • Various Cancers
  • Coronary Heart Disease
  • Arthritis
  • Autoimmune Diseases
  • Alzheimer’s
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Cataracts
